This week, we wander into the haunted cornfields of the American South — and straight into the eerie world of early ’80s made-for-TV horror — with Dark Night of the Scarecrow (1981). To our knowledge, it’s one of the very first films to make a scarecrow the central monster of a horror story.

Harvest Horror Month continues as we make our this week to the corn fields of Nebraska with Children of the Corn. That's right the Stephen King short story turned 80's pre-Terminator Linda Hamilton vehicle is our film this week. It's not often that we cover a movie the same year it gets released. However, today we bring you 2025's Clown in a Cornfield a movie about clowns, corn, friends, and most of all Friendo. The Town that Dreaded Sundown

Welcome to week three of our month of serial killer films based on true events. This week we watched the 1976 quasi factual The Town that Dreaded Sundown from the filmmakers behind The Legend of Boggy Creek. Come for the story of a masked man terrorizing Texarkana Arkansas and stay for wonderful performances from Ben Johnson, Andrew Prine, and a surprising turn from Dawn Wells aka Mary Anne from Gilligan's Island. Join us to find out if we liked it, if we were surprised at the brutality of the masked killer, and most importantly to see if it scared Cyndi to death. 

Cruising

This week, we dive into Cruising (1980), William Friedkin’s controversial thriller about an undercover cop hunting a serial killer in New York City's vibrant late-'70s LGBTQ nightclub scene. Inspired by the chilling Bag Murders—where dismembered bodies were discovered in garbage bags floating in the Hudson River—this film is as unsettling as it is unforgettable.

Well you can't do a month of movies about serial killers made by actors or directors at the height of their power without talking about this film. That's right we watched Dirty Harry a thinly disguised zodiac killer movie made during the height of the zodiac killings in the bay area. Did we love it? Was Cyndi surprised at how good Andrew Robinson's Scorpio Killer was? Did it scare her to death? Join us this week to find out and make our day. 

The Talented Mr. Ripley

Join us for a beautifully shot film about an American sociopath social climber on extended vacation in 1950's postwar Italy. Come for the murders and stay for the surprisingly beautiful film. Join us to see if we loved Matt Damon thriller and if it somehow, someway scared Cyndi to death.  

Peeping Tom
